Mayor’s letter from Cairo

Mayor Jon Raven is writing from Cairo, Egypt, where he represent Logan at two global conferences: the Quality of Life conference by UN-Habitat and the World Urban Forum. Logan, the only Australian city in the Quality of Life program, is showcased for its exceptional performance in green space, air quality, and safety. This program benchmarks our city against others worldwide, fostering idea exchange to improve residents’ lives. Collaborating with global representatives, including Google, highlights Logan’s leadership and innovation. Our success is a collective effort from community groups, businesses, government, and residents, making Logan a model for quality of life improvements.


Radio host Ted Thirkill dies, aged 79

Ted Thirkill, a beloved rock and roll DJ on Radio FM, has passed away at 79. Known for his show “Ted’s Memories,” he entertained listeners with music from the 50s and 60s. Ted, the longest-serving DJ at 101fm, cherished his role and the station’s community. He joined 101fm in 1986 and helped shape its easy listening format. Station manager Terry Blacker announced Ted’s passing, highlighting his significant contributions and the respect he garnered. Ted’s funeral will be held on November 13 at St Paul’s Catholic Church, with an invitation extended to all 101fm members, sponsors, and listeners.

Quota Beenleigh gets Spooky at Beenleigh Historical Village

The Beenleigh Historical Village is hosting a spooky Halloween event in partnership with Quota Beenleigh and Junior Quota Clubs. Families can enjoy a fun and safe Trick or Treat Trail, starting at 5:30pm, where volunteers dressed in costumes offer treats and tricks. The Night Market opens at 5pm, and Station 4207 Café will provide food throughout the night. Tickets are available for the Trick or Treat Trail, with all profits supporting local charities, the Beenleigh Historical Village, and Quota Beenleigh's youth programs. The event offers a fun Halloween experience while supporting important community causes


Women's Leadership Scholarships: Empowering Women in the Workplace

Women & Leadership Australia (WLA) is offering leadership development scholarships for women, with partial scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $6,000 per person. These scholarships are designed to help women increase their workplace impact, advance their careers, and step into leadership roles. Eligible participants can choose from four leadership and skill development programs. The scholarships aim to empower more women to take on leadership responsibilities. New Indoor Stadium delivers long- term Legacy

The new $142.1 million Logan Indoor Sports Centre (LISC) offers significant procurement opportunities for small businesses. New Accommodation Coming to Beenleigh for the Homeless

Anglicare Southern Queensland is building a new $13 million youth homeless accommodation facility in Beenleigh, Logan. This 30-unit project aims to address the growing youth homelessness crisis, particularly for those aged 16-25. Anglicare offers support services and hopes this project will provide stability and resources to help young people secure employment, education, and permanent housing. The facility will be staffed 24/7 and offer a mix of studio and one-bedroom apartments. Construction is expected to begin later in 2024 and be completed in late 2025. Anglicare is seeking community support, including donations, to help make this project a reality.

Beenleigh Gets a Splash of Excitement

Big news for Beenleigh! A brand new 50-meter heated pool, expanded play areas, modern facilities, and bookable multipurpose rooms are just some of the exciting features planned. This project aims to create a space for everyone, from competitive swimmers to families with young children. The Beenleigh Brass Band and local swim clubs will also benefit from dedicated areas within the new complex. Construction has begun and the pool is expected to open in 2025.
